SIDE – Semantics In Distributed Environments

Welcome to the home page of the SIDE Research Group at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Paraiba (IFPB), Brazil.

SIDE hosts students and professors doing research in computer information management systems, with particular emphasis on databases and information systems in distributed environments. Related issues are: semantics usage, data distributed environments (e.g., PDMS, Web), query answering, semantic web (and, in particular, semantic data integration and linked data), geospatial information systems, context-aware systems, query personalization and others.

By semantics, we mean the study or understanding of the meaning of certain elements that need to be interpreted in a given task or situation. For instance, we may need to interpret the elements surrounding a given user in order to identify his/her context when s/he submits a query. In this sense, we are especially interested in using semantic information in order to easy or improve processes such as query answering in distributed environments (e.g., the Web of Data, web applications, query personalization).
